Little Bird

It is not very often that Mads calls Mina by her name.  He usually calls her "Birdie" or "Little Bird".  Those are two of the sweet names we have lovingly given her as nick names. Some of the others are "Mina Bird" (that is the original nickname) "Wiggle Bird" "Minnie Fox" "Sugar Buns" "Minnie Min".  We do actually call her Mina too, I am so in love with her name, she is such a little Mina!!! In just a few days she will be 5 months old, wow...
This was going to be a super cute clip until it did not go quite like I had planned, oh well, she is usually much more animated when I go get her in the morning.

What can I do that's fun??!!

Play dough?
no thanks.
Paint?

Train tracks?
no thanks.
Balance the check book?
What!?
Turn on the hose, fill up the "garden" with water,
get out your dump trucks,
get some bowls and spoons and get dirty playin in the mud?

REALLY?? YES, THAT MOM!!

Um, I have to pee mom... go ahead Mads...
3 hours and a warm bath later, they had dinner and fell asleep hard!!
It was a good day at the Powelson house.

Boys Adventure!

Chester, Rulon and Mads went on a big adventure this weekend!! Chester was super excited to see the Raymond Comets football team play against a high school in Pocatello, ID.  Naturally he took the boys with him since he is an awesome dad!

Their first stop was at the Smith & Edwards crazy military surplus place... they saw old missiles...
sat on a BIG TANK!!! And Rulon finally got a belt that he can put his belt buckle on from the Piute county fair. (Is that right? The buckle the kids got at the Courthouse vacation in Junction, UT?)

The next stop was in Malad, Idaho at the cemetery where grandma Marie and grandpa Wally are buried.  Although neither of the boys knew their great grandpa (neither did I) Rulon does have good memories of his great grandma Marie.  He still sleeps, plays, and travels with his "Toby horse" stuffed animal from grandma Marie. I learned something new about grandpa Wally, he planted the trees that are so big and pretty on their plot at the cemetery, and my mom remembers when she was about 11 or so the trees were finally getting taller than she was, how cool is that?

They also got to see where two of their great great grandparents are buried!

It was especially neat because our little Mina is named after their great great grandma Mina Newhouse! How cool!

Then it was on to the football game! These signs were proudly displayed before leaving home just in case there wasn't a good photo of them later.
Now that's a happy boy!!!
Our nephew Nikora is #58!!!
YUP!! There he is!!!
Snacks too?!? What a treat! Not sure what or who Mads is scowling at but I'm sure he scared em off.
And a little clip to wrap up this report of the boys big adventure!!

Mads Starts Preschool!!

Last week Mads and I made a special trip to his new preschool to meet his teacher, Mrs. Heap, and see the classroom together. Mads was totally excited!  He wanted to wear his backpack in the car and practice his counting the whole way there.  When we parked in front of the house (his school is in a cute add on to a home in a neighborhood) he asked me if I was going to leave him there.  He was certifiably bummed out when I reminded him that we were just visiting for a few minutes so he could meet his teacher and see his class.
Mads could not believe he gets to go to preschool in the same place that Rulon went to preschool last year.  He was super happy to hear he gets to hang his back pack on a hook (wow!), paint, sing, learn letters and numbers, and use glue and scissors!!
On our way to his REAL first day of preschool Mads was listing things to me that he would not do, "I won't jump and talk mean to the kids or Mrs. Heap will say Mads don't talk mean to those kids, and I won"t suck my fingers or Mrs. Heap will say only babies suck their fingers, and I won pee in my ginch or poop since I am so big, and I won't put my fingers in my nose for a cruster..." You get the idea.  Shoot, what does he need a mom for, he knows the drill.  I just had to remind him of the things he CAN do: smile, listen, play with new friends, say please and thank you, have fun... ok, he does still need me. Whew.
So we went in, found the spot with his name project, and he went to town.  It was all I could do to get him to glance up at me for a quick picture!!  He was so happy that today I WAS leaving him there!!
What a grown up boy!!  He is going to LOVE preschool!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rulon working hard.

The boys always want to "help" Chester when he does yard work.  Rulon is getting old enough to really be helpful and make Chester's work so much more enjoyable.  Rulon isgreat to talk with and loves to work hard outside.  He especially loves to haul grass, branches, leaves, anything, to the dumpster for Chester.

First Day of School

Anyone notice in my other post that I misspelled Kindergarten? You are all just too nice to post a correction in your comments!! Thanks :)
Today was Rulon's first real day of Kindergarten!  He was awake and ready WELL before it was time to head out the door!  I had to find a few things for him to do in order to keep him from bouncing around the house and waking everyone else from their peaceful slumbers!
Rulon did not have one single second of hesitation about going to school today, he was not nervous or anything.  Just excited.  We drove to school, just Rulon and mom, and talked about how grown up he has become.  When we got to Scera Elementary he bounced out of the car and reached up to hold my hand to walk together to his class.  The princlpal greeted us at the door and told Rulon he looks like a mighty smart Kindergartner.  For sure!  Rulon led me to his room and we found the hook with his name on it, he was pleased as can be!

Then we found his supplies box and took it to a table to settle in and start his first assignment.

He was totally happy but a little embarassed that I wanted to take another picture... oh well.

So, respectfully, I backed away, and took another picture or two...
nice play Rulon... chattin up the girls!!

And just before leaving I got this look and, "Ok mom, you can go now!"
When I picked Rulon up he was just as happy as when I had dropped him off.  He cannot wait to go back to school tomorrow. Whew, lets hope it lasts :)
